The Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is one of the types of financial aid that you can get when you fill out a FAFSA. The Pell Grant is only for undergraduate students who have not yet earned a degree. People who are incarcerated are not eligible for the Pell grant.
The maximum amount for the Federal Pell Grant for the 2016 to 2017 was $5,814. The maximum amount for the Federal Pell Grant for the 2017 to 2018 school year will be $5,920. There are several factors that will determine how much assistance that you get including the cost of attendance, your financial aid and whether you are going to school part-time or full-time will affect how much assistance that you get.
You will be able to get the full amount if you qualify for the Federal Pell Grant. However, the school must have enough funds to provide funds to everyone who is eligible for the Pell Grant. The amount that other students receive does not affect the amount that you get.
In order to maintain your Pell Grant, you will have to fill out a FAFSA every year. You will not be able to get the Pell Grant after you have earned your bachelor's degree or professional degree. Additionally, if you have used the Pell Grant for 12 semesters, then you will no longer be eligible for it.
The good news is that if you fill out the FAFSA online, then you will have an easier time filling it out the second time. You will only have to update certain information because the website will remember certain things that you have put in the application.
Keep in mind that school typically requires that students maintain a certain grade point average in order to get federal student aid. Students should check the eligibility requirements for the college or university that they are attending.
